Seasoned and newly appointed management teams and executives often see that a way to improve a business is to re-structure, change or re-organise. Often for the newly appointed this is implemented quickly as they see the need to make an early impression.<br />
However with so much evidence that the benefits are not always realised is there a better way? What needs to be considered for any change to be effective?<br />

<p>The foundation to all of these is communication, its a crucial skill although along with many of the steps its often overlooked in an eagerness to make an early impression or quick change.  So what can seasoned or newly appointed management teams or executives do to get the best out of communication.</p>

<p>Considering carefully your sources and methods of communication. Is it better static/written e.g. Blogs, websites, memos, news or is it better dynamic e.g.video, meetings, conferences, workshops, face to face or would a combination work best?</p>

Asking the right questions<br />
Actively listening to the responses<br />
Being receptive<br />
Being aware of the non verbal signals (what you see/hear/sense and also what you give out)<br />
Minimising opinion, assumptions and judgement<br />
Analysing what you get</p>

As communication is normally a long term requirement and also a foundation for effective change then a communication plan can ensure a consistent quality approach giving real benefit and delivering long term real value. </p>

Step 7 For each of the goals on the Iist, expand your why&#8217;. Explain to yourself fully why you want to have this goal and what it will mean to you. Write this down.Step 8 Take each goal in turn and make 2 &#8216;Iists for each to show&#8217; what you are prepared to do to achieve it and what you will need to do to achieve it.Step 9 Make a Iist of the people you need to work with or the people who can hejp you, the skills you might need to develop, the actions you need to take, what you need to learn, what you need to understand.<br />
Step 1 Do the rocking-chair test. Take yourself out into the future at age 95. Imagine the wonderful  life you have designed for yourself. Visualise it. Fully associate with it.Write down the story of yotlr incredible life, the amazing things you&#8217;ve done,fantastic things you&#8217;ve seen, the people you have touched and the changes youhave made in your own Iife.Place your goals with their action points, within a time-frame. Put a start and finish date on them. Remember a goal is a dream with a date.</p>

This helps you to overcome the mental obstacles that restrict your success. We’re now going to discuss who your big client and fish is. It’s important to understand the client you are looking for before you create a plan. We’re also going to take a moment to discuss the potential “red tape” you may come across on the way.<br />
The key thing to know about your target client is their purchasing habits and process. There are 4 main things you need to focus on in order to be a success:<br />
1. Roles and Responsibilities: You need to know who has the influence over purchasing, who actually does the purchasing and who can kill a deal if they choose to.<br />
2. Get on Their Supplier List: You need find out how to get on their supplier list. Your name needs be on the list and at the top of the list in as many categories as possible. Ask about any selection process and what you need to do to get through it.<br />
3. Language: You need to understand the company’s unique language and communication methods. These could include acronyms, report names, buzzwords and possibly even the nicknames they have for some employees.<br />
4. Budgets: It’s essential you know the clients fiscal budget, so you know exactly when they are planning to carry out their procurement for the year.<br />
Now that we’ve discussed what you need to know about your client, let’s take a quick look at the “red tape” or bureaucracy.<br />
Bureaucracy might as well be a swear word with the emotions it can create. “Red tape” can be a necessary evil, but it’s one you can learn from. There are 2 ways to learn from their system:<br />
1. Analyze their activity.<br />
2. Review their correspondence.<br />
Being on the outside looking in can have its advantages. If you hate dealing with the “red tape” and bureaucracy, imagine how their own employees feel. If they need to run through some numbers, offer to do it for them. If they need more information, provide it in a user-friendly way.<br />
