Your business is like your workout. You have a number of limbs or muscle groups that you are co-ordinating, developing and focussing. When you get all to work together you can lift heavier weights. If your technique isn’t quite right or one muscle group isn’t pulling its weight you have to correct that otherwise you injure yourself or don’t lift as much. If you see your profit as lifting a personal best and your muscle groups as your employees and projects then all you need to do is find out which muscle group isn’t pulling its weight and or technique is wrong and correct it. In a gym you might use a personal trainer in business you can use a coach. If you don’t correct it you will keep making the same mistake and could end up injuring your business repeatedly. Correct and you can get Profit personal best

So the 12 weeks I have myself to train for my new goal are up and I feel so much better, I’ve changed shape, lost weight got more energy and improved my diet and exercise. Significantly I have completed my first ever super sprint triathlon and between myself and my brother raised over £1200 for cancer Research UK.
On 15th July I successfully completed my super sprint triathlon at Sutton Park In Sutton Coldfield I came 9th out of all the males in the super sprint event which I was really pleased with as my goal was to finish the event. The winner was exactly half my age and the man that came last was almost twice my age – I think he was amazing to do a triathlon at 82 although I don’t know whether it was his first or one of many.
The water was cold and murky, the cycling started with a long hill and had a number of tight curves and the running was on grass tracks mostly and up and down. However it was made easier by the fantastic support and atmosphere provided by the volunteers, event staff, the supporters of the triathletes and the fellow triathletes who were competing. It was this fantastic atmosphere that has spurred me on to want to do another – and the fact I can now call myself a triathlete.

This is my first blog on a 12 week challenge to achieve my goal of completing a triathlon in July. I am writing about it here as it’s about achieving clear goals and getting the right support to do so. As a coach I recognise the value of getting appropriate support to help you. So if you have business goals let me know and if you have fitness and sports coaching needs then the people mentioned here are some of the best.
I am 46 years old with children from age 8 to 17. I am 6ft tall and as I haven’t done much exercise over previous years and my diet was not brilliant, my weight had grown to 14st 7lbs, which doesn’t give a good BMI. I had therefore been thinking about setting myself a new goal to lose weight and get fit for some time. Then my 51 year old brother asked me to do a triathlon with him as he thought it would be good to do something for charity after losing a close uncle to Cancer. My brother has done a number of triathlons over the last 2 years to raise money for the Prostate charity that supported him when he was diagnosed at the age of 42. At the same time he suggested this triathlon, Bio-synergy were looking for 12 week challenge entrants.
So setting myself a goal of being able to complete a triathlon (super sprint) at the end of 12 weeks and to lose 8kg in that time, I applied. These are scary goals to declare to the world as now I am committed. However I recognise that the best way to achieve goals is to get the right support, advice and nutrition from day 1 and this is what I have.
The range of bio synergy products www.bio-synergy.co.ukI now have include whey better protein shakes, skinny bars, NO2 and thermogen supplements. Ann from famously fit www.famouslyfit.comhas provided me with ongoing excellent advice on my nutrition and exercise plan. She has reviewed a 2 week food diary I completed and is giving me very specific advice on the changes, the right foods and quantities to eat to and how to use the bio synergy products in order to get optimal effect, get more energy and achieve my goals.
Today is the first day of the 12 week challenge, the goals are in sight, very specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound as I have identified the Birmingham triathlon on 15th July as my objective.
While doing the triathlon, I am aiming to raise money for Cancer Research UK to help find a cure for a horrible disease that has affected so many lives

How often have you gone through a re-organisation and it’s only achieved some of its objectives, how often does a re-structure take place and the benefits are not evident? How often has change been implemented but not sustained?
Seasoned and newly appointed management teams and executives often see that a way to improve a business is to re-structure, change or re-organise. Often for the newly appointed this is implemented quickly as they see the need to make an early impression.
However with so much evidence that the benefits are not always realised is there a better way? What needs to be considered for any change to be effective?
Key steps that need to be considered before any reorganisation, change or restructure are
(More on these 6 key steps in the following posts)
The foundation to all of these is communication, its a crucial skill although along with many of the steps its often overlooked in an eagerness to make an early impression or quick change. So what can seasoned or newly appointed management teams or executives do to get the best out of communication.
Key steps to to communication include
Considering carefully your sources and methods of communication. Is it better static/written e.g. Blogs, websites, memos, news or is it better dynamic e.g.video, meetings, conferences, workshops, face to face or would a combination work best?
Considering your methods and approach e.g.
Asking the right questions
Actively listening to the responses
Being aware of the non verbal signals (what you see/hear/sense and also what you give out)
Minimising opinion, assumptions and judgement
Analysing what you get
There is so much to be considered that to get the best value out of your time and effort a communication plan can be developed. As communication is normally a long term requirement and also a foundation for effective change then a communication plan can ensure a consistent quality approach giving real benefit and delivering long term real value.
Effective communication is an area that coaching can provide real value, contact me for a free coaching strategy session.

Divide your goals into 4 main groups:
Ongoing goals needjng daily input* short-term goals to achieve within a week to a month, medium-term goals that may take between a month and a year* Iong-term goals that may take longer than a year.
Step 7 For each of the goals on the Iist, expand your why’. Explain to yourself fully why you want to have this goal and what it will mean to you. Write this down.Step 8 Take each goal in turn and make 2 ‘Iists for each to show’ what you are prepared to do to achieve it and what you will need to do to achieve it.Step 9 Make a Iist of the people you need to work with or the people who can hejp you, the skills you might need to develop, the actions you need to take, what you need to learn, what you need to understand.
Step 1 Do the rocking-chair test. Take yourself out into the future at age 95. Imagine the wonderful life you have designed for yourself. Visualise it. Fully associate with it.Write down the story of yotlr incredible life, the amazing things you’ve done, fantastic things you’ve seen, the people you have touched and the changes youhave made in your own Iife.Place your goals with their action points, within a time-frame. Put a start and finish date on them. Remember a goal is a dream with a date.
