Your business is like your work out

Saturday, January 19th, 2013

Your business is like your workout. You have a number of limbs or muscle groups that you are co-ordinating, developing and focussing. When you get all to work together you can lift heavier weights. If your technique isn’t quite right or one muscle group isn’t pulling its weight you have to correct that otherwise you injure yourself or don’t lift as much. If you see your profit as lifting a personal best and your muscle groups as your employees and projects then all you need to do is find out which muscle group isn’t pulling its weight and or technique is wrong and correct it. In a gym you might use a personal trainer in business you can use a coach. If you don’t correct it you will keep making the same mistake and could end up injuring your business repeatedly. Correct and you can get Profit personal best

Goal achieved, £1200 raised for cancer research

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

So the 12 weeks I have myself to train for my new goal are up and I feel so much better, I’ve changed shape, lost weight got more energy and improved my diet and exercise. Significantly I have completed my first ever super sprint triathlon and between myself and my brother raised over £1200 for cancer Research UK.

On 15th July I successfully completed my super sprint triathlon at Sutton Park In Sutton Coldfield I came 9th out of all the males in the super sprint event which I was really pleased with as my goal was to finish the event. The winner was exactly half my age and the man that came last was almost twice my age – I think he was amazing to do a triathlon at 82 although I don’t know whether it was his first or one of many.

The water was cold and murky, the cycling started with a long hill and had a number of tight curves and the running was on grass tracks mostly and up and down. However it was made easier by the fantastic support and atmosphere provided by the volunteers, event staff, the supporters of the triathletes and the fellow triathletes who were competing. It was this fantastic atmosphere that has spurred me on to want to do another – and the fact I can now call myself a triathlete.

It’s still possible to donate www.justgiving.com/john-o-flynn

Goal setting and getting the right support triathlon and cancer research

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

This is my first blog on a 12 week challenge to achieve my goal of completing a triathlon in July. I am writing about it here as it’s about achieving clear goals and getting the right support to do so. As a coach I recognise the value of getting appropriate support to help you. So if you have business goals let me know and if you have fitness and sports coaching needs then the people mentioned here are some of the best.

I am 46 years old with children from age 8 to 17. I am 6ft tall and as I haven’t done much exercise over previous years and my diet was not brilliant, my weight had grown to 14st 7lbs, which doesn’t give a good BMI. I had therefore been thinking about setting myself a new goal to lose weight and get fit for some time. Then my 51 year old brother asked me to do a triathlon with him as he thought it would be good to do something for charity after losing a close uncle to Cancer. My brother has done a number of triathlons over the last 2 years to raise money for the Prostate charity that supported him when he was diagnosed at the age of 42. At the same time he suggested this triathlon, Bio-synergy were looking for 12 week challenge entrants.

So setting myself a goal of being able to complete a triathlon (super sprint) at the end of 12 weeks and to lose 8kg in that time, I applied. These are scary goals to declare to the world as now I am committed. However I recognise that the best way to achieve goals is to get the right support, advice and nutrition from day 1 and this is what I have.

The range of bio synergy products www.bio-synergy.co.ukI now have include whey better protein shakes, skinny bars, NO2 and thermogen supplements. Ann from famously fit www.famouslyfit.comhas provided me with ongoing excellent advice on my nutrition and exercise plan. She has reviewed a 2 week food diary I completed and is giving me very specific advice on the changes, the right foods and quantities to eat to and how to use the bio synergy products in order to get optimal effect, get more energy and achieve my goals.

Today is the first day of the 12 week challenge, the goals are in sight, very specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound as I have identified the Birmingham triathlon on 15th July as my objective.

While doing the triathlon, I am aiming to raise money for Cancer Research UK to help find a cure for a horrible disease that has affected so many lives
