“I started life coaching sessions with John when they were first made available in my company. We talked about the areas in my life that I wanted to focus on which included both my personal life as well as work. John was very approachable and easy to talk to and I felt I could be completely honest. This is so important with life coaching as you need to be honest with yourself first and foremost about what you want to achieve, where you are now and what barriers you may experience along the way to reaching your goals. I decided the areas I wanted to concentrate on most were fitness and raising my profile at work.
It was great being able to focus on what I’d ultimately like to achieve and the ‘journey goals’ I wanted to aim for along the way.
Since starting my sessions I’ve trained from nothing to running my first half marathon, an ambition that I’ve held for many years. John’s help changed my way of thinking. Instead my old reaction which would typically be “ I can’t do this” I now think “I can achieve anything”. On 13th October I completed the Leicester half marathon in 2 hours 8 minutes which was 2 minutes quicker than the time I was hoping for. I was so proud of myself for being able to stick to the months of training. There were times where things didn’t go to plan and the old me would have probably given up. However I was conscious of the goals I’d set myself and with John’s help was ready to deal with the ‘trigger points’ which might have tripped me up in the past and caused me to stop. I think this is what I’m proudest of!
From a work point of view I wanted to feel more confident within my role, raise my profile and push myself out of my comfort zone. In the past if given an opportunity to raise my profile by getting out and about and networking as well as presenting to groups, I’d worry about what might go wrong. Instead of worrying about the worst case scenario I’ve started to think about all the positives and consider ‘what’s the best that can happen?’. I’m accepting more challenges and relishing the opportunity to succeed. I’ve achieved so many different things this year such as meeting and running training sessions for some of our brokers, visiting teh head office and getting involved in wider ranging projects and support. It’s given me a renewed sense of job satisfaction and plenty of evidence to present in support of the behaviours in my end of year review.
I’d recommend life coaching to anyone. By making simple changes to your approach to areas of your life and how you think about them can make a huge difference.” Philippa
